  12. I think it is important for us to recognize that this truly did happen in history. There are many things that happened to the Native Americans long ago that have went silent. For examople, when Christopher Columbus came over his men gave Native Americans blankets covered in small pox to kill them. That shoudl be a book so people realize it was part of our history.

  14. idiots thats so rude THIS BOOK WAS A HEART WARMING TALE listen 2 the dewitt dudette

@dewitt OMG BLANKETS W/ SMALL POX I NEVER KNEW THAT

My Favorite part was when Cassie took revenge on Lillian Jean. I loved this part, because it cleared up the confusion on why Cassie was acting strangely. I would defenately recomend this part to other readers since it not only makes you feel good inside, you can almost imagine the quarrel between the 2 girls. Mildred D. Taylor explained this part so clearly, I could close my eyes and imagine the forest, Lillian Jean's books on the ground, the fight, practically everything.

  15. (same person from above)
I am writing this because I have chosen this for an assignment. I am a girl in sixth grade and love to read different kinds of books. My favorite books are fantasy, mystery and humorous stories. This book has some funny parts, but it can also make you very mad and sad.

The book is called "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred D. Taylor. It is about a black girl, named Cassie Logan, and her family. The story mainly takes place on a cotton farm in Mississippi, near the town of Strawberry, in 1933. It is unusual for her family to own a cotton farm because most blacks at this time did not own land. Also her land was special to the family because her grandfather bought it in 1887. The Logans were very protective of their land. They knew it was extremely important. Cassie's father even left to work for the railroad just to make sure they had enough money so they wouldn't lose their land.

Strawberry, Mississippi is a small, boring and red town. It looked red because of the red dirt. There are a few houses and shops but not much excitement. Cassie found it pretty dull.

Some important characters in the book are: Cassie Logan who is a nice girl, but trouble usually finds her wherever she goes. Stacey Logan is Cassie's oldest brother and in the seventh grade. Christopher John is Cassie's younger brother who wants to avoid trouble no matter what. Cassie's youngest brother, "Little Man" (Clayton Chester) is in first grade and likes to be mischievous but also wants to avoid getting dirty at any cost.

This book is about the year Cassie Logan notices that white people treat her and her family unfairly and rudely because they are black. She does not like being treated differently. White people often call the blacks "nigger", a nasty name. Besides being called names, blacks are often ignored or made to wait longer for their turn than white people.

This book made me feel sorry for how Cassie and other blacks were treated. But Cassie and her brothers always used their heads to "get even" with mean people. One of my favorite parts of the story is when Cassie and her brothers dig a big hole in the middle of the road. A white's school bus driver and kids would always splash the Logans with mud and laugh at them. The Logans were annoyed but Stacey hatches a plan. They would dig a big hole across the road just before it rained. They then hid to watch as the bus came. The bus driver, thinking it was just a mud puddle, drove right in the ditch. The bus was stuck! The Logans silently laugh as the bus tried and tried to get free.

Some important events that happened in the book were when Cassie throws (white girl) Lillian Jean's books in the mud to get back at her for being pushed off the sidewalk into the road in Strawberry. It made Lillian Jean think she shouldn't have treated Cassie unfairly. Also, Stacey gets in a fight with a friend for getting him into trouble. This causes problems later in the book that really show how badly blacks were treated.

Cassie learns that some problems can be overcome and some things cannot be changed no matter how much she would like to change them. I recommend this book if you want to read a funny but sad story that teaches about unfairness.

  16. Yes, I agree with person above because my class is reading this book and making a project and it is a very entertaining book and also it has made me sad. My favorite part was when the burners went to Cassie's house and then just left because she got to tell everyone what see saw!
